Hi, Teacher Friend!
My name is Krista Barbour and I am a middle school Language Arts teacher.
I know, I know. Middle school students are soooooooo weird. But that’s why I love them. I have found my perfect fit.

Before moving to Seattle in 2022, I taught 6th grade English in Lawrence, KS for ten years. Prior to that, I taught in Portland, OR at a high poverty school. It was rough, to say the least. That is where I decided that my mission as a teacher was to make middle school a place of joy and growth. As I practiced how to supplant my students’ feelings of turmoil and frustration, I developed a deep affection for these awkward tiny humans. I was born to teach middle school. (Much to my family’s surprise, considering how much I did not thrive during those years!)

I have a Master’s in Education and am constantly on the hunt for new professional development opportunities. Conference? Sign me up! New book on best reading practices? I want it! A glass of prosecco? Yes please! (Oops, that last one wasn’t directly related to PD.)

When I am not adventuring around in my VW van with my two sons and teacher-husband, you can find me dreaming up creative ways to engage my students, listening to true crime podcasts, or training for a half marathon.

Thanks for seeking out the whimsy and I hope you stick around!
